Weekly Greeting: Sunday 27 March
Dear Friends
While we sit in the Sanctuary today, a number of the men of our community are in Polokwane attending the Mighty Men Conference. Even though, as you read this, they are ending their weekend, pray that God will “work in them the good purpose of God’s perfect will”. There is no moment more powerful than God at work in our lives.
The topic for today is: The Power of putting faith into action.
Weekly Greeting: Sunday 6 February
Dear Friend,
Warm greetings! Welcome to worship today at Northfield Methodist Church. If you are visiting us for the first time, it is great to have you with us.
Presently we are involved in a sermon series entitled COUNTERFEIT GODS based on Tim Keller’s book by the same name. Together we have been learning that idolatry is alive and well in our lives and our world. An idol, we have seen, is anything that grabs centre stage of our lives. Often an idol can be a very good thing in itself!
Weekly Greeting: Sunday 25 April
Dear Friends
The "Mighty Men Conference" was a significant experience for nearly 200 Northfield and Benoni Central men who attended. Some lives were changed - Every life was touched. Almost impossible to describe is the sensation of sitting among an estimated 400 000 men who in unison shout "Amen!" The sound must have been heard for many kilometres in the surrounding hills and valleys.
Weekly Greeting - Sunday 11 January 2009
Dear Friends
First of all, a happy New Year to all! We welcome back those who have been away - it is great to have you back with us. The last few weeks have been quite hectic within the life of our Northfield family - lots of celebrative worship, many folk visiting, some painful funerals and the usual pastoral work of a local congregation. As we begin the year there may be a few things that you want to know about.
Weekly Greeting: Sunday 16 March
Dear Friends
On that first "Palm Sunday", Jesus as he so often did, did something totally unexpected. He came riding into the city on a humble donkey. Let's think about that donkey for a moment.
It may only have been a donkey, but for those who had eyes to see, Jesus was claiming to be a king! A very different king of course. A king of peace. A king of love and truth. A king of the heart and soul. A king of resurrection life. A shepherd king. Not a king of war or political power.
It was only a donkey, just an ordinary means of transport in those days, but somebody gave it. I am constantly amazed at how God's people give, of their time, gifts, money and themselves. When God changes our hearts he opens them and we begin to have a new view of our possessions. These things are no longer "ours", they are God's and we need to pass them on to help others in need. To reach out with his love, to build his church and his Kingdom.
