Weekly Greeting: Sunday 6 November
Dear Friends
Once again, thank you to the Volunteers and Staff that made Norfest what it was. Thank you too for your support of Norfest. It has been a blessing to hear stories from different people, both Northfielders and Visitors, about the positive experiences of being part of the Norfest event. May we never get used to and take for granted, the resources and facilities we have been blessed with.
Today we take a look at Greed. It is a disturbing theme. Jesus uses a parable to warn us of wanting more than we need. This raises very subjective opinion, because one person’s perceived need is different to another. It raises the question - how do we know when enough is enough?
Greed is an excessive desire to possess wealth, goods, or abstract things of value, with the intention to keep it for one's self. Greed is inappropriate expectation.
Medieval Theologian, Thomas Aquinas, said of Greed: "it is a sin directly against one's neighbour, since one person cannot over-abound in external riches, without another person lacking them... it is a sin against God, just as all mortal sins, inasmuch as man contemns things eternal, for the sake of temporal things." (2, 118, ad 1)
Greed is known as one of the seven deadly sins.
Three great forces rule the world: stupidity, fear and greed. --Albert Einstein
Thank you for joining us today as we explore how to keep our greed in "check" and try and gain more of an understanding of God's expectation of our living our lives in balance.
Blessings
Brian and the Team
