Weekly greeting - 1st August
Dear Friends
Many years ago a world famous theologian and scholar, Dr Karl Barth appeared on German television. Responding to the question, “With all your knowledge and experience, if there was only one comment you could make to the millions of viewers, what would it be?”
He responded, “Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so”.
Some say that the Bible is the most sold book on the planet... and the least read.
Today we look at renewing our “Foundations of Faith” through Scripture.
Scripture is many things:
It is the Living, breathed Word of God. A revelation released into the lives of humanity over many many years.
It is a story covering more than millennia of human history that gives a window into the lives of men, women and children. Their celebrations, their pain, their politics, their wars, their relationships, their religions - the list is endless.
It is that which guides our thinking, instructs our living, comforts our grieving - the list is endless.
It is a body of text that has captured the imagination of the conspiracy theorists, code sleuths, prophets - the list is endless.
There is no other book like it.
May the Bible become more and more the foundation on which we build our lives. Today is an opportunity to reawaken your love for Scripture.
Also please remember that we welcome Dallas Willard this coming week. There are three opportunities to engage him: The 3 day seminar (Tuesday – Thursday), the Saturday morning seminar, as well as the invitation to the 20 and 30 year olds to spend Wednesday evening in conversation with Dallas.
Please note: Trevor is going to do a teaching series later this year entitled “Eternal Living Today” which is a follow on from the Dallas Willard Saturday morning. A requirement for the series will be your attendance at the Saturday Seminar. The bulletin has the full details.
Blessings
