Weekly Greeting: Sunday 7 March
Day 18 of Lent 2010 - nearly half way!
Dear Friends
Speaking of Lent and temptations confronted, there is a legend amongst Methodist ministers that for every temptation overcome, a hair is taken from their head. Rev Delme Linscott, we applaud you but also encourage you, Brian and Mike to put their heads together (get it?) and come up with a plan of action for Trevor and Gavin!
But louder than this applause, is the one with which we welcome Delme into our presence today. Delme lives life deeply and seeks God's clarifying and life giving voice in his life and in our lives as South Africans. He is further gifted in communicating these experiences and so we look forward to receiving blessing as he ministers to us this morning.
Returning to Lent 2010, so far our shared journey reads as follows:
Confess your sins and find healing. We rejoice with those who have found healing in their confessions. You are reminded of the offer on Wednesday evenings to book a time between 5-6pm in the Prayer Chapel where a minister will be available for prayers of confession.
Jesus touches lives by offering life giving water which will necessarily confront us with our poor track record in living out our covenants. Jesus teaches us how to pray and challenges us to become our prayers. Today we look at Jesus touching those places of honest doubt.
Our Saturday series for men has looked at removing the rocks of reward, recklessness and revenge for a fuller and more free flow of God's Spirit while the women have been invited to let go of busyness, passions and old baggage as they respond to Jesus' question over their tears. All are invited to the 3 remaining sessions.
A week of guided prayer begins today and exposes those who have signed up for the experience to a reflective and deliberate prayer journey over the next week.
When you take the above and add your own personal story - stories maybe of confronting sin, seeking reconciliation, receiving forgiveness, exposing a need for God; we pray that you are being meaningfully led ever closer to the grace to be found at the foot of the cross and at the entrance of an empty tomb.
