Weekly Greeting: Sunday 6th April
Dear Friends
The theme we will be following for the next six weeks leading up to Pentecost (11 May) is "Come, Holy Spirit". Each Sunday we will examine various aspects of the work of God's spirit in us.
This week we focus on the strength which the spirit gives us to help us in our weakness. One of the words Jesus used to describe the Spirit was, "Comforter". Sadly it is a word which has changed its meaning over the years. Today it has come to mean something like, feeling sorry for someone, or cheering them up. But originally it had a much stronger meaning. It meant "a power which comes alongside us when we are weak or in need."
As we explore today what this power can mean for us, and how we can get it, we pray that it may become a deep reality in your life. There are so many tough things in life and in the world that break us down & drain us of power - tiredness, fear, discouragement, failure, sin, bereavement, burnout, guilt, addictions, brokenness, pain, illness - it's a long list. We need this "higher power" to help us cope and to live with the fullness of life which God wants us to have - victory, power, joy, peace, fulfilment.
Today, if you can catch a glimpse of Jesus, won't you reach out to Him and receive the power that he wants to give you.
On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let them come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within them." By this He meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were later to receive. (John 7:37-39)

Re: Weekly Greeting: Sunday 6th April
One place where we can get to know the Holy Spirit's power is when two or more believers are gathered together, pooling their faith, expectantly. This year's Mighty Men's Conference lead by Angus Buchan is a remarkable event in SA. If 25000 men bend their knees at God's feet, will His heart not be moved? Will He not get up and give ear to their prayers? Take a look at Angus' web page at http://www.shalomtrust.co.za and his latest newsletters on this event. I think that this is God calling South African men to re-take their places as spiritual leaders in their families, in their workplaces, in their churches, and in their country, and to prepare the way for the future.
