Weekly Greeting: Sunday 31 January 2010

Dear Friends

We would like to welcome you to the services today and pray that you will be blessed by all that happens here. If you are new to Northfield or just visiting, a special word of welcome, please make yourself known to the stewards. We would love to get to know you!

"Come Holy Spirit Heal and Transform your Creation". These words formed the theme of the recent conference of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa. The Presiding Bishop said, "It is a theme that is pregnant with hope and possibility even at a time of global economic recession, job losses and lack of confidence in the market economy."

As one speaks to people in our communities one becomes aware of many folk who have much hope in the future. Many times this hope comes even from those who are suffering. On the other side of the coin the people we assume would be full of hope for the future are in fact feeling down without a future perspective or vision. Within our church communities and in the wider world, we are confronted daily by a rapidly changing complex environment and the hopes and dreams of people are put to the test.

Many people come to church bearing many burdens whether they are financial or problems with relationships etc.

One of the most important attributes of being part of a church community is the opportunity for ordinary people to meet and fellowship with others, whether it is at the Sunday services or other church activities. For many, Sunday service is the only contact with others.

As Christian believers we should always be filled with hope and joyful trust in God's promises, we must not give in to despair. As Christian believers we take every opportunity to encourage one another. Hope means reminding each other that God never abandons his people and is alive and active in the world.

The power of a smile or a word of encouragement cannot be measured, and the impact of which often we never get to know!

Romans 15:13

'May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit'

God Bless You

The Ministry Team
