Weekly Greeting: Sunday 18 July
Dear Friends
What has been billed as the “greatest sporting event in the world”, the FIFA World Cup, has come and gone. The event raised significant challenges for us as a nation and all reports indicate that we have achieved with excellence. There was a time however, when serious concerns were raised about our ability to rise to the challenge and rumours were rife about the Plan B option for FIFA. People said, “Have faith”. Whatever the journey to the World Cup looked like, it brought out the best in us and we caught a glimpse of the heart of who we are as a nation. History will celebrate South Africa as we showed the world our best side.
As the flags are lowered on the Fifa event, it does feel a bit like a “New Year” and the time for new resolutions. Whilst the doom and gloom advocates will always be amongst us, the question we all need to ask is, “What is the best we can take out of this experience and how can we live that out each day?” How do we become even more proudly South African? How do we continue to build relationships in word and deed and refuse to feed the negative advocates? We all caught a glimpse of the heart of South Africa and it makes us feel very proud to be South African.
Some news: we will be welcoming two exciting guests during August, Dallas Willard and Phil Togwell. Follow the announcements and make sure you are part of the experience. John v d Laar will also be launching his new book in August.
Blessings
Brian and the Ministry Team
