Weekly Greeting: Sunday 16 May
Dear Friends
Today is Alpha Sunday. You will hear a number of testimonies from people who have had life changing experiences while on the Alpha programme. To answer the question: What is Alpha? One would reply, "Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed, friendly setting. The Alpha course usually meets once per week for 10 weeks and includes an amazing one-day or weekend getaway. Each session, people enjoy great food, laughter and learning in a fun and friendly atmosphere, where no question about life or God is seen as too simple or too hostile.... questions like - Is there a God? Why am I here? Where did I come from? Where am I going?
Alpha is an amazing opportunity to get to grip with some of the fundamentals of our faith. So why not be a friend and invite a friend to be part of this Alpha journey.
Last Sunday Trevor and I spoke to the congregation about our Budget deficit. Some folk have responded to the challenge and as a Community we say with deep gratitude, "thank you". If you weren't here, please read through the handout "Financial Challenge 2010" and prayerfully consider your response. We are asking for two things: 1) each worshipper to increase their giving by the "cost of a pizza" per month. This will help us achieve our monthly income Budget for the year. 2) For those who are able to, prayerfully consider a once off donation that can help us restore the Reserve Funds we have had to use up to now to fund the shortfall. As we journey through the 150 Days of Renewal, let one of our prayers be, " Lord how do I need to renew my generosity" and let God guide you in your giving. But once again I ask that you take the time to read the handout.
Finally, there are a few exciting services coming up. Next week we consider the message of Pentecost and at the 18:30 service we also pay special attention to those men and women who are brave enough to run the Comrades Marathon. The week after, at the 08:00 & 10:00 services, we are having a special "Family Service" and again this is an opportunity to worship together as the extended family of Northfield. Typically, the only time children get to see their parents worship is at a service where we are all in the same place. The invitation is to be part of these events and programmes. To quote a visitor to our "campus" - "man this is an exciting place".
Blessings
Brian and the Team
