Dear Friends
Happy Mother's Day to all mothers with us today! Today we give thanks for you. We hope that it will be a special day. We think also of our own mothers. We give thanks to God for all that they have meant to us.
Today is a day for us also to pray for all mothers estranged from their children, or who wonder where they are, or who today will be totally forgotten. Especially, we hold in our hearts those who long to be mothers but who, for some reason or circumstance, are not.

Welcome to our services today.
Today we celebrate 'Pentecost'. The word comes from the Greek word 'pentekostos', meaning fiftieth. Since about the second century, Christians have celebrated the coming of the Holy Spirit fifty days after the death and resurrection of Jesus, on the Jewish Feast of Pentecost, and with the descent of the Spirit, the birth of the church.
After Christmas and Easter, Pentecost marks the most important celebration of the Christian calendar. As we read about Pentecost in Acts 2 and other scriptures it is easy to be, once again caught up in the enthusiasm of the early days of the church!
It is with great pleasure that we welcome Rev Janet Verrier to Northfield today. Janet is part of the team at Bryanston Methodist Church. Janet was a single mother for about twelve years. She has a wonderful heart for God and for people. We look forward to the insights that she will bring. Janet will be preaching at the 8am, 10am and 6:30pm services.

Welcome to the worship today.
This coming week is an important one in the Christian Calendar. As you may know, next Sunday is our Pentecost celebration. We have invited a very special person, Rev Janet Verrier to be our guest preacher. Presently she is part of the pastoral team at Bryanston Methodist Church where she has pastoral and teaching responsibilities. For about twelve years Janet was a single mother and so she brings with her much personal insight into the challenges those in this position face. Next Sunday is also Mother's Day and that is one of the reasons why we have especially invited Janet to be with us. Don't miss it.
During the week, from Monday to Sunday, we are also having a special time of prayer, meditation and worship in the Hope Chapel. These will take place early in the morning from 6am - 6:45. We will have tea and coffee for those who are able to stay. Our focus for the week is The Spirit Empowered Church.

Warm greetings!
There are three 'events' that will be happening in the Sanctuary over the next few weeks. We would encourage you to keep a note of them and to share in these times of worship and learning.
First of all, please note our special guest preacher for Mother's Day and Pentecost Sunday. She will be the Rev Janet Verrier. Presently Janet is part of the pastoral team at Bryanston Methodist where she has a very effective teaching / pastoral ministry. We were really blessed by our last guest preacher, Pastor Leonard Stone and we are sure that you will enjoy Janet just as much. Please share this news with your friends and neighbours.
