I recieved an email today that showed pictures of a Muslim protest in London. This email upset me. Not because of what is portrayed as a threat to the western world and to Christianity, but because of what the email did not say and because of the clear lack of understanding i.e. provoking images were used out of context to elicit a response in a certain direction. One of the pictures was this one:

What the email did not tell me was that this was a protest held in 2006 as a result of the Scandinavian cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammad. Clearly, and we know from the news reports, the Muslim world was very angry over the cartoons.

Now, anyone with a rational mind can see this group of people are extremists ... extremists who are angry (with a justifiable reason to be angry). The problem I have with the mail I received was how it depicted Islam as an antagonistic religion set on global domination.

What I know about Islam is that it is an evangelical religion (much like our own), but not to the degree that the author of this email and the folk who propagate its message would want us to believe.

Using images of this nature, out of context, can only breed a contempt of Islam in Christain and western circles. I really wish folk would see that it is not the majority of Islam who feel this way.
